DRESSAGE

Dressage

Newcastle Lyons has a very successful history with pony club dressage. In 2016 Newcastle Lyons won the Pure Dressage Team National Championships, and then went on to represent Ireland in the British Pony Club Championships.

In addition, in 2018 and 2019, three of our riders won the National Silver Spurs accolades with Dressage Ireland. Their success was based on the dressage training and encouragement received from Newcastle Lyons.

Pure Dressage

The Pure Dressage team competition is held every year at the National Championships. The team has to compete in the Area 2 qualifier first and the top 2 teams from the Area qualifier proceed to the National Championships.

Each rider from a team of 4 rides a dressage test , there is team competition and individual competition. The overall  top 10 riders make it through to a ride off where they do the test again to decide the final placings of the individual competition.  The standard is high but achievable with training, experience and development.

Area 2 Qualifer : 4th May 2020, CoilÓg Equestrian

National Dressage Day

In May of each year the National Dressage Day is held in Spruce Lodge Co. Wicklow. This competition gives competitors the chance to individually show off their dressage talent.

Two tests are ridden – a warm up test and the championship test. Expressions of interest in dressage training to Anne Casey at atkane@eircom.net.

Team Competition - on the morning of the competition a mixed team draw is done. One rider from the U12, Junior, Intermediate and open are chosen from different clubs and prizes are awarded for the winning team.
